164th Infantry Remembrance Association officially launched

NORTH DAKOTA — A new organization dedicated to preserving one of North Dakota’s most storied military legacies has officially launched. The 164th Infantry Remembrance Association has been formed to honor, preserve, and share the history of the 164th Infantry Regiment—the first U.S. Army unit to take offensive action in World War II, reinforce the U.S. Marines on Guadalcanal, and one of the most distinguished National Guard regiments of the war.

ND lawmakers join Day of Solidarity at MN State Capitol

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Thursday, Jan. 29, over 50 legislators from 15 states gathered in-person at the Minnesota State Capitol for a Day of Solidarity with their Minnesota colleagues, including North Dakota State Sens. Tim Mathern and Ryan Braunberger, as well as Reps. Jayme Davis, Gretchen Dobervich, and Austin Foss. That same day, a national virtual press Zoom conference was held with over 100 state legislators from across the nation, including State Rep. Lisa Finley-DeVille.

ND Senate kills free school meals bill, but ballot measure likely to appear in...

BISMARCK, N.D. – On Jan. 23, the North Dakota Senate voted down House Bill 1624, which would have provided up to $65 million to fund free school breakfasts and lunches for every student in the state. The vote was 24 against, 22 in favor. The bill had passed in the House the previous day on Jan. 22, 55 in favor and 38 against. However, a measure for free school meals is likely to appear on the ballot in November

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Thursday she is running for governor of Minnesota, promising to take on President Donald Trump while unifying a state that has endured a series of challenges even before the federal government’s immigration crackdown.

Man found dead at Lake Region Correctional Center, apparent suicide

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – A man who was in custody at the Lake Region Correctional Center, part of the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center, was found dead on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

DEVILS LAKE – Spirit Lake Tribe Public Relations Specialist Vicki Alberts just returned from a trip to the Twin Cities, where she coordinated an event to help tribal members get identification. “Tribal IDs and Certificates of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB), as well,” she said on Monday, Jan. 26. “We actually assisted about 72 tribal members from ages 4 on up.”
