Devils Lake Police Department (DLPD) reports the following:

3/20/26: At about 6:40 p.m., police were dispatched to the 900 block of 6th Avenue for a 14-year-old juvenile male armed with a gel gun, a toy gun that shoots small, water-absorbent gel balls that burst on impact. The juvenile allegedly had the weapon in his waistband, threatening other young teens in the area. Two private citizens detained the juvenile, disarmed him and disassembled the weapon before police were called to the scene. The suspect also had a pocketknife in his possession. He was charged as a juvenile with terrorizing and released into the custody of his mother.

3/23/26: At about 7:03 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of the Cenex One Stop on 6th Ave., NE. An off-duty DLPD officer had detained a female subject who was causing a disturbance at the nearby KC Hall on 4th St., NE, during a Devils Lake High School hockey banquet with parents and children present. The subject, who had an open container of alcoholic beverage in her possession, was intoxicated, covered in vomit and other bodily fluids, and had been issued a criminal trespass warning at the location just minutes prior to the incident in which the subject’s unwanted actions, appearance and conduct were creating an increasingly alarming situation. The subject was placed under arrest, transported to the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center, where she was turned over to correctional staff and charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and having an open container of alcohol on the street.

3/23/26: At about 9:58 p.m., a police officer was dispatched to the Spirit Lake Motel at the request of tribal security officers on the scene as they wanted assistance in ejecting a male patron and female patron occupying one of the motel rooms, due to noise complaints. The male, who was responsible for the noise disturbance, refused to leave, was uncooperative, obstructive and continued to exacerbate the situation until he was handcuffed and placed in the back of the squad car. He was later released from custody and advised not to return, or he would be arrested.

Two other male subjects who were also in the room appeared to be intoxicated and were unconscious; one was passed out on the floor while another was on the bed and unresponsive. The passed-out male was revived and instructed to vacate the property.

As other DLPD officers arrived, it was determined that the unresponsive male, currently on ND parole and probation, required medical attention, possibly due to a combination of alcohol and some form of narcotic. Lake Region Ambulance Service was dispatched and arrived on scene; officers assisted with moving the unresponsive male out of the room, whereupon he was transported to Altru ER for medical treatment.

While officers were assisting LRAS, security discovered three female minors in a silver van in the parking lot who had apparently been drinking in the room prior to the arrival of police. Given preliminary breath tests, two of the three females registered .15 and .16 on the breathalyzer, and were cited and released into municipal court for a first offense of minors in possession. One of the minors said they were provided alcohol by the male taken to the hospital and the female patron of the room; a long-form complaint will be requested on both parties for delivery of alcoholic beverages to certain persons prohibited.
