DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — Woodland Resort, a family-owned destination on the shores of Devils Lake, hosted a grand opening celebration for its new Shores Venue event center on Monday, August 11. Overlooking scenic Creel Bay, the newly constructed 13,000-square-foot facility will accommodate weddings, corporate gatherings, and other large-scale events, further solidifying the area’s reputation as a premier tourism destination.
The event was open to the public and featured a brief program, including remarks from Governor Kelly Armstrong and other key contributors to the project.
Made possible in part by a $1.75 million Destination Development Grant from the North Dakota Department of Commerce, the Shores Venue adds to Woodland Resort’s growing campus. What began over 30 years ago with a small bait shop and cabins has grown to include a hotel, motel, full-service marina, and now, a state-of-the-art event space.
“Woodland Resort continues to be a landmark destination for Devils Lake residents and visitors alike,” said Governor Armstrong. “Whether it’s the thrill of catching a 30-inch walleye or the reward of an unforgettable hike, guests create lifelong memories here — and the Shores Venue adds another way to experience this incredible region.”
Designed and built by Consolidated Construction Company, a design-build firm headquartered in Bismarck, the facility features flexible indoor and outdoor spaces for up to 400 guests, with on-site catering and bar services. The project was completed in under a year. Consolidated Construction also partnered with Woodland Resort on a prior expansion in 2015.
“This project is a complete extension of our business,” said Kyle Blanchfield, Woodland’s third-generation owner. “We can now offer once-in-a-lifetime events in one of the most beautiful locations in the region.”
The grand opening of Shores Venue represents a new chapter in Devils Lake’s continued growth as a hub for tourism, recreation, and celebration.
