At a recent meeting of the Devils Lake City Commission Commissioner Jason Pierce presented a plan for honoring local veterans, past and present, through special banners to adorn the street lights of the city.
According to Pierce, “As of this year’s passage of HB 1148, the month of May is Military Appreciation Month in ND. In order to celebrate Past and Present Military service members and all that they have given and continue to give to the Country and State of North Dakota.
“To honor all our ND Military, I am starting a program where Devils Lake citizens can purchase a light pole banner for their veteran or military member, both active and National Guard, that are from Devils Lake.”
“We have space for 100 banners. They will be placed on a pole in Downtown Devils Lake on 6th St and 5th Streets and 6th Ave coming north of Hardees beginning the first of May and remain there until fall. Once it is taken down, the banner is theirs to keep!”
“The banners come with a cost of $57.00 a piece. To accommodate 100 Banners, 30 more light pole brackets that will need to be purchased as well at a price of $4742.54. We are trying to provide these banners at no cost to the families and are accepting donations.”
“On November 1st, order forms will be available online for download on the NDFF Devils Lake Military Appreciation Banners on Facebook. Forms will also be available to pick up at the VFW here in Devils Lake. If not enough funds are raised to provide them for free, the price for a banner purchase will be listed on the order form. If there is more money donated that is needed, that money will be carried over to the next year’s banner purchase.”
“If you would like to donate towards this program, please mail a check made out to North Dakota Freedom Foundation to:
