FTLT opens July 2: ‘Legally Blonde,’ the musical

The Fort Totten Little Theatre will have its opening night of the Musical ‘Legally Blonde’ on Wednesday, July 2 at 8 p.m. in Roosevelt Park.

The director for this summer’s show is Gavin Brown, a lively, talented actor normally seen on stage. This will be his debut in directing. “Oh, I’ve been the assistant director for many shows, like at the high school, but this is my first time as The Director,” Brown admitted Thursday afternoon.

“It’s all coming together,” he added, “it’s a good group and a director is only as good as the group he gets to work with.”

Adding, “This group of people is awesome, I feel so honored to be working with them!”

The cast list for ‘Blonde’ includes Cambree Blegen, Jeremiah Mitchell, Joel Elvrum, Peyton Platz, Maddie Sharpe, Megan Shields, Mia Rodriguez, Emma Bennett, Eleanor Hannan, Lydia Janssen, Darcy Blegen, Emmerson Boyeff, Erin Clementich, Zach Ebach, Nicolas Huebner, Catherine Janssen, Phillip Maritato, Terri Mertens, Daniel Nyland, Loryn Pollestad, Nora Reyles, Jordan Vannett, Riley Wass, Josh Widmer, Rachel Willey, Brody Asleson and Simon Schlenker.

Erin Clementich is the choreographer, Anna Janson is the stage manager, and Val Sampson is the music director. Josh Widmer and Joel Elvrum have been helping Brown build the sets.

To purchase tickets you could take a chance and purchase them at the door – provided they aren’t sold out for the evening! Tickets can also be reserved and purchased on the website www.forttottenlittletheatre.com

This year the Park Board brought back the “Party Deck” that was lost when the old bandstand was razed. If you have a group of friends you want to treat to their own private “party” to watch the show, that is possible once again. Age restrictions may be involved if planning to serve alcohol. Check with the FTLT website for the cost and restrictions for the private party deck, a poured concrete slab, now located on the west side of the new Roosevelt Park Event Center. When completed it will have a railing enclosing the space, a perfect way to treat your friends (or family) to watch the show together.

No need to bring a lawn chair, they provide comfortable seating. This year’s show will have a total of 15 performances starting July 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19 (2 shows), 23, 24, 25, and 26. The July 19 performances are at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. If you have an antique car, this is the show – the 10 a.m. show – to attend because you get a free breakfast if you bring your car to display.

Just an editorial note, the late night show at 10 p.m. can sometimes get a little “naughtier” – keep that in mind when you are purchasing your tickets. Brown explained that in the past, there may have been some controversial lines or material that they cut out of the original script, but put back in (sometimes) for the late night show. This year, however, Brown said there wasn’t much taken out of this script so it will be interesting to see what the actors ad lib for the 10 p.m. show, or if they do.

Concessions will be available for sale before the show and during the intermission, as well, for all performances.

Put on your pinkest outfit, pack “for sure” your tiniest purse-sized doggy and plan for a night that will delight at Devils Lake’s Fort Totten Little Theatre, providing live summer theater every summer since 1963.
