Over 150 Fifth Graders Attend Progressive Agriculture Safety Day in Ramsey County
North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension–Ramsey County was proud to host its third annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Day on April 3, 2025, at the Memorial Building in Devils Lake. The event welcomed 157 fifth-grade students from Central Middle School and St. Joseph Catholic School to a fun and educational experience focused on safety, health, and wellness.
Students rotated through eight engaging and informative sessions, including Home Alone Safety, Drug Awareness, Lawn Mower Safety, Stress Management and Mental Wellness, Substance Use Awareness, ATV and Snowmobile Safety, Water and Sun Safety, and Internet Safety.
This impactful day would not have been possible without the dedication of our incredible presenters: Officer Christon Dallas (Devils Lake Police Department), Tom Rost (Newby’s Ace Hardware), Tyler Knutson (Devils Lake Marine & Sports), Kim Miller (North Dakota Telephone Company), Katie Henry (NDSU Extension-Cavalier County), Sara Laite (NDSU Extension-Ramsey County), Taylor Hart (Lake Region District Health Unit), Sam Feldmann and James Myhre (North Dakota Game and Fish), and Bryan Lang and Ashley Matheny (Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department).
Each student received a take-home bag filled with safety-themed materials and resources, made possible by the generous support of local sponsors.
• Gold Sponsors: High Plains Equipment, Ramsey County Fair Board, Richard Sager Crop Insurance, CHS, and the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health
• Silver Sponsor: SmileQuest Dental
• Bronze Sponsors: First Community Credit Union, Lake Region Anglers, Leading Edge Equipment, North Country Seed, North Dakota Telephone Company, Tronson Grain, and Western Equipment Finance.
When asked what they learned, students responded with practical safety goals like “plan a safety plan with my family for if there is a fire,” and “wear the right equipment on an ATV, snowmobile, or mower.” Others emphasized the importance of water safety and always wearing a personal flotation device.
NDSU Extension Ramsey County would like to thank our volunteers and community partners for helping to make the day both educational and memorable. Events like this help lay the foundation for a safer, more informed next generation.
