Torri Fee is the Mon-Dak Defensive Player of the Week.
The awards were announced Wednesday by the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference. Fee was one of two players named, with North Dakota State College of Science’s Tessa Jacobson winning the offensive honor.
Fee, a Devils Lake native, is in her first year with Lake Region State College. She’s a member of both the volleyball and women’s basketball teams. At Devils Lake High School, she was an all-region volleyball player and state champion basketball player.
Fee has stepped right in as a libero for the Royals. Over six games in the past week, she collected 119 digs. She added 22 assists, five aces and a kill. Through the first 10 matches of the season, she leads the entire Mon-Dak with 160 digs. In fact, the top three diggers in the conference are all Royals, with Madison Samuelson and Sydney Schwabe right behind her.
Fee’s 4.21 digs per set is the second-best mark in the conference, behind only the 4.44 posted by Miles Community College’s Cameron Blevins.
“She’s invaluable. She’s so cool and calm, and she’s a competitor,” Royals head coach Steve Waddell said after the team’s home opener on Aug. 27. “We’re starting to teach her a little bit more of our game, and just kind of the movement and things. And she’s grasping onto it in a really, really nice way. She’s just a stud back there, and we trust her. I trust that when the ball is going to her, that she’s gonna make a play.”
LRSC is off to an 8-2 start after winning 15 games all of last season. The Royals host the Boost the Blue Triangular this weekend, with matches at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday. They host Mayville State JV the following Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.
The first conference game for Fee and the Royals is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 16 against Dawson Community College.
