One of Devils Lake’s girls’ hockey players is staying local.
Delaney Wagner, a senior forward on the Firebirds, has signed with the Lake Region State College women’s hockey program. LRSC announced the news Wednesday.
“I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity to continue my hockey journey,” Wagner said, per a press release. “I want to thank my coaches, teammates, family and everyone who has supported me along the way. I’m excited for a fresh start next year and ready to see what we can accomplish.”
Wagner has one goal for the Firebirds in 12 games played this year. She led Devils Lake’s returners with five goals last season. She’s also a captain of the team.
The LRSC women’s hockey team is in its second year as part of the ACHA Division II. The Royals went 7-12 in their inaugural season under Logan Kraft. They’re 8-9 so far this season, led by first-year head coach Sawyer Diseth and first-year assistant Austin Kempel.
Wagner is one of three seniors on the Devils Lake girls’ hockey team. She’ll look to shore up an LRSC offensive group that will lose its top goal scorer, sophomore Veronica Asquith, to graduation next year.
“I can’t wait to get started and represent LRSC at the next level,” Wagner said.
