No. 1 North Star boys’ basketball kept its winning ways going with a victory in the first game of the Region 2 tournament in Devils Lake on Monday.

The Bearcats beat Warwick 70-41 to advance to the region semifinals. Dane Hagler led with 25 points, 10 of which came in the third quarter. It was 30-25 at halftime, but North Star pulled away with a 23-7 third quarter. Karsen Simon had 14 points, fueled by two three-pointers in the first quarter. Hunter Hagler had 13.

Next up will be a rematch with Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich on Tuesday. The Cardinals very recently took North Star down to the wire in the district tournament, requiring a comeback and a strong fourth quarter for the Bearcats to squeeze out a win. North Star, with its 22-1 overall record, is certainly the favored team, but last time’s matchup showed that LA/E/M is good enough to put up a fight.
