The Devils Lake boys’ basketball has quite the act to follow over the next two weeks.
Two days after the girls won their first championship since 1987, the boys will begin their postseason run. Tylie Brodina was named tournament MVP, and now the focus will shift to a different set of Brodinas: head coach Dustin, along with his sons Parker and Beau.
While the girls won their fourth state title ever, the boys have never won it. They have seven championship appearances, all of which came before the year 2000. They’ll try to rewrite history and join in on the girls’ triumphs over the next two weeks, starting with the Region 2 tournament on Monday.
The Firebirds are the No. 3 seed in the tournament despite being ranked No. 4 overall in Division A. Nos. 2-4 all happen to be in Region 2. It should be a competitive tournament and a test of which team is truly the best.
