Summer ball is officially underway.

The Devils Lake Storm A team (1-1) split a doubleheader against the Minot Vistas (1-1) on Monday in Minot. Devils Lake lost 12-4 and bounced back with an 8-5 win.

It was sort of a funky lineup for both games. Mason and Max Palmer didn’t play, while the team brought back three super-seniors and three Nelson County kids. Fausten Olson, Hunter Remmick and Ben Larson were all in the Game 1 lineup, as were Landon Sundeen and Lakin Ronningen, with Brody Rainsberry pitching.

Taydon Triepke batted ninth in the first game and leadoff in the second, while Will Heilman batted third in the first game and second in the second. Jaxon Strong and Alex Hammond were added to the lineup for the nightcap.

Rainsberry got hit around for six runs (four earned) in 3 2/3 innings in the opener. Triepke pitched in relief and had a rare off-outing, giving up six runs in 2 1/3 innings. Usually a pristine strike thrower, Triepke threw just 35 of his 75 pitches for strikes.

Minot put the game away with a six-run bottom of the sixth.

The Devils Lake offense got RBI hits from Remmick, Triepke, Rainsberry and Tayven Wiberg.

Remmick, who was primarily a pitcher for Lake Region State College this spring, went 3-for-4 in the first game and 2-for-3 in the second.

Minot made five errors in the nightcap, including two in the third inning to help Devils Lake take a 1-0 lead. Ben Brodina got the start on the mound. He held Minot scoreless through the first three innings but allowed three runs in the fourth, including one on a balk.

Another Minot error sparked a Devils Lake rally in the fifth. Remmick tied the game with an RBI single, while Strong put the Storm ahead with another hit. With two outs, Wiberg hit a two-run single, completing a five-run rally that gave the Storm a 6-3 lead.

They added a pair of two-out insurance runs in the sixth, as Easton Kraft walked and Sundeen was hit by a pitch, both with the bases loaded.

Brodina got through six innings with Minot still at three runs, but he didn’t record an out in the seventh. After a walk and an error, Brodina surrendered a two-run triple, ending his evening on the mound. He threw 95 pitches (52 strikes) while allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks in six-plus innings.

Wiberg took over. He didn’t pitch much this spring, but he took 12 pitches to get the final three outs in order — capping the first Storm win of 2026.

The A team is scheduled to play its home opener Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against the West Fargo Vets.
