Two of Lake Region State College’s baseball players will be moving onto the four-year level.
Kade Maryniuk and Tyler Olson have committed to transfer to Mayville State University, LRSC announced Sunday. Maryniuk and Olson both hail from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, and previously attended Portage Collegiate Institute.
They’ll join Tyler Kleinjan and Hugh Montgomery, a pair of 2025 Royals who now play for the Comets. Devils Lake alum Ben Larson is also on the Mayville State roster.
Maryniuk, a sophomore left-handed pitcher, posted a 7.36 ERA in 22 innings this season. He walked 21 batters, struck out 14 and allowed 22 hits. Between two seasons for the Royals, he posted a 9.31 ERA with 38 runs (30 earned) in 29 innings. He had 37 walks and 18 strikeouts while allowing 33 hits.
Olson was only in his first year with LRSC, but he too will be moving onto Mayville. The right-handed second baseman hit .415 with a .510 OBP in 49 plate appearances this season.
The Royals went 12-37 with a 5-14 Mon-Dak conference record this year. They were eliminated by Miles Community College in the Region XIII playoffs.
Maryniuk and Olson will join a Mayville State program coming off a 23-24 season with a 9-15 mark in Frontier Conference play. The Comets last had a winning conference record in 2023 and a winning overall record in 2021. In that 2021 season, they made the NAIA National Tournament.
Mayville State is in the third year under head coach Billy Tomblin. One of its assistant coaches is Caydn Schwabe, brother of former LRSC basketball and volleyball player Sydney Schwabe.
