For the second year in a row, Lake Region State College baseball player Lucas Lyons has been named all-conference in the Mon-Dak.

Lyons started the season fairly slowly, but he picked it up and actually ended up doing better in some categories than he did in his strong freshman year. He hit .336 while collecting 43 hits after posting a .295 average with 38 hits as a freshman. His OBP was lower this year — .417 compared to .450 — but his slugging percentage was higher, at .516 compared to .473.

Lyons hit three homers this year to finish with seven for his LRSC career. He added six doubles and four triples this season.

The left-handed-hitting outfielder also stole 12 bases in 16 attempts. As a freshman, he stole 20 bases in 20 attempts.

Lyons, a Winnipeg, Manitoba, native, finished his standout Royals career with a cumulative batting line of .315/.434/.494. He totaled 26 extra-base hits.

LRSC baseball player Beau Brodina and softball player Alexa Ferguson were also honored by the Mon-Dak, receiving all-sportsmanship awards in their respective sports. The award honors student-athletes who demonstrate strong character and respect on and off the field.

Brodina and Ferguson were both second-year Royals who received relatively minimal playing time as freshmen and had much more substantial roles as sophomores.

Brodina, a Devils Lake native, played in all 49 games for the baseball team this season. He had 167 plate appearances compared to 83 as a freshman, hitting .266/.431/.297 with 34 hits, 31 walks and one home run. He finished his LRSC career with a .427 OBP and 35 stolen bases over two years.

Ferguson, after being limited to five hits in 34 at-bats as a freshman, played in 42 of LRSC’s 44 games this year. The Melfort, Saskatchewan, native posted a .348 OBP over 117 plate appearances and tallied four extra-base hits.
