Athlete spotlight: Landon Schneider homers twice in Cardinals’ region win
The Langdon Area/Munich baseball team is rolling right now, winning six straight games. The Cardinals secured the No. 1 seed in Region 4 with a 13-3 win over Midway/Minto on Monday.
Landon Schneider stood out in the victory, going 2-for-2 with two home runs. He also walked twice, reaching base all four times he came to the plate. He totaled five RBIs. Schneider caught and batted cleanup behind Theo Romfo. The Cardinals totaled 13 hits and nine walks in the run-rule win.
Schneider’s first blast was a three-run shot in the bottom of the first, tying it up after M/M had scored three unearned runs in the top half. His second homer was a two-run blast in the fourth inning to make it 9-3.
Game spotlight: Records set at Devils Lake track meet
Devils Lake hosted a track and field meet on Monday, and multiple records were set on the girls’ side.
In her first time ever competing in the triple jump, Devils Lake eighth-grader Aubryn Wiberg posted a 33’2”. It was not only her personal best, but the best mark for an eighth-grader in the triple jump in school history. It was good for third place overall at the meet.
A Devils Lake relay team also set a record. Siri Bryce Volk, Raeleigh Myklebust, Ella Wass and Sara Kraft ran a 50.89 in the 4×100, which was the fastest ever in that event for Devils Lake.
There were numerous more highlights to be found in the Devils Lake Rotary. Four Winds senior Marial Deng, competing for New Rockford-Sheyenne, won the high jump and was part of a winning relay team. Fellow senior football player Francis Bellile won the shot put and placed second in the discus. The duo led an overall strong performance by the NR-S boys. Benson County also had a ton of success on the girls’ side, coming in second place.
