Five Devils Lake golfers clinched their spot in the state tournament on Wednesday.
Thomas Leevers, Patrick Leevers, Koen Boline, Braxton Boline and Rylan Swenson all punched their tickets Wednesday at the Horace Invite.
T. Leevers led the way with a score of 76, coming in 24th place overall. P. Leevers was one stroke behind him at 77, good for 26th place.
The Bolines were also one stroke apart. Koen shot a 78, coming in 36th place, and Braxton shot a 79, coming in 46th.
Swenson rounded out the group with another 79, tying for 46th with B. Boline.
This season is just the second for the revitalized Devils Lake boys’ golf program. Last year, B. Boline was the team’s lone representative at state after he shot a 75. Boline is the only senior on the team.
The younger Boline is just a freshman. T. Leevers and P. Leevers are a junior and freshman, respectively, while Swenson is a junior.
As a team, Devils Lake took ninth place out of 12 at the Horace Invite with an overall score of 310. Grand Forks Red River won the meet with a 289. The top individual golfer was West Fargo Horace’s Blake Engstrom with a score of 67.
Weston Stromme (81, 64th place), Easton Fritel (86, 80th place) and Carson Hogness (94, 89th place) also competed in the meet for Devils Lake.
The Firebirds are currently in last place in the Eastern Dakota Conference.
The state tournament will be held June 2 and 3 at Oxbow Country Club in Oxbow, N.D., a town located about 15 miles south of Fargo.
