Lake Region sports roundup: April 30 – May 4

A wave of cold weather returned early this week, but the area teams were able to get some sports in Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Athlete spotlight: Addisyn Faul, Benson County track and field

The Benson County sophomore clinched her third state qualification of the season on Saturday, running a 26.67 in the 200-meter dash while placing second. Faul previously qualified in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. She also added a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash and a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash in Saturday’s meet.

This was her first time qualifying in the 200-meter. She qualified in both hurdles events last year but not the 200.

Game spotlight: Chargers softball takes down No. 7 Valley City at Albrecht Field

Nelson County/Midkota got to play at Albrecht Field in Grand Forks on Saturday, and the Chargers swept a two-game set over Valley City and Rugby.

The win over Valley City was particularly notable because the Hi-Liners were ranked No. 7 in the coaches poll at the time. It was a 5-4 victory. Mya Luehring allowed three runs in the first two innings, but just one run the rest of the way. NC/M scored two in the fourth to tie it, then two in the fifth to take the lead. Carson Fossen, Olivia Fossen and Kenley Blasey had key RBI hits.

Eighth-grader Jenna Sundeen also made this sensational catch.

The Chargers moved back up to No. 10 in the coaches poll before a 13-10 defeat to Carrington on Monday.

NC/M is now 8-3 overall and 4-3 in region play after splitting its last two region games.
