Lake Region State College has hired its new women’s basketball coach.

Kori Zarzutzki will be leading the program going forward, the school announced Thursday. Her official titles are head women’s basketball coach and assistant housing director.

“Grateful for my next chapter as head WBB coach at Lake Region!” Zarzutzki wrote in a social media post. “Huge thank you coach [Colden] Hutton, search committee & administration. Looking forward to this journey & excited to keep building on what LRSC has already established with their strong history and culture!”

Zarzutzki was most recently the head women’s basketball coach and director of residential life at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. LRSC’s press release noted that she led all aspects of the basketball program while overseeing housing operations for more than 180 students.

“As a head coach, Kori has a proven track record of building and growing programs quickly,” the school said in a release. “She has stepped into challenging situations and delivered results, including rebuilding rosters, improving team performance year over year and maintaining strong academic outcomes. Her teams have consistently achieved high GPAs, and she has coached student-athletes to all-region recognition while keeping them academically on track.”

Zarzutzki coached at Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, Mo., from 2021 to 2024. She served as athletic director for part of that tenure as well. Before that, she coached women’s basketball at Oak Hills Christian College in Bemidji, Minn.

LRSC added Zarzutzki has experience in housing operations and student support.

“She is committed to building a program that represents LRSC well both on the court and in the classroom,” the school said.

Zarzutzki takes over after Hutton, now the Royals’ athletic director, coached the team for two years. Ryan Clark, now the head women’s coach at Minot State University, was the coach for the two years before that. LRSC has had a winning record in three of the last four seasons, with a .500 conference record or better in all four.

Zarzutzki’s position is part-time for now. The school said the position will be reevaluated next fiscal year as they assess program needs and long-term direction.
