Ben Brodina is now an all-state basketball player.
The Devils Lake sophomore was named to the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Division A all-state second team released Monday.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan senior Marial Deng was one of five selected to the first team. Indians senior Jonte Delorme also made the second team.
Brodina was one of three sophomores to make the all-state teams. In his first season as a starter, he averaged 17 points per game through the Firebirds’ third consecutive Region 2 championship. He ended up scoring 37 games over the three-day state tournament, where Devils Lake took third.
Brodina took over the scoring load during the six weeks the Firebirds were without their top two scorers. He scored a school-record 49 in a game against Grafton. The 6-foot-2 guard was often the tallest player on the floor for Devils Lake.
Brodina is the son of head coach Dustin Brodina and the youngest of four siblings, continuing a line of basketball success in the family. Parker Brodina, who now plays for the University of Mary, was the Division A Senior Athlete of the Year in 2025.
Deng’s high school basketball career ended in a first-team selection.
He and Grafton’s Brody Lillemoen were both given Region 2 Senior Athlete of the Year honors, and both made the all-state first team.
Deng averaged 19 points per game going into FW/M’s first state appearance at the Division A level. He scored 44 points in the three-game tournament, surpassing 1,000 career points while being named to the all-state tournament team. He finished his basketball career with 1,034 points.
Deng also averaged more than five rebounds per game, along with roughly three assists, two steals and a block.
The 6-foot-5 forward/guard typically had the team’s toughest defensive assignments, too.
Deng was the all-around best player on an Indians team that went 24-4, with much of the season spent ranked No. 1 in Division A.
Deng still has four years of college football in his future, as he joins his older brother Deng Deng at UND. The older Deng was named Mr. Basketball in 2024.
Delorme’s big season as FW/M’s second scorer earned him second-team honors. He averaged 15 points a game, finding the most consistency of any season in his high school career. He was a strong inside and outside attacker for the Indians.
FW/M finished fifth at state after winning its final two games. It was the last year of the FW/M co-op.
State champion Beulah went home with the NDHSCA Coach of the Year award (Brandon Schirado) and the NDHSCA Outstanding Senior Athlete (Braylen Schirado).
