Today is brisk, cool and sunny. A great day to get some yard decor put away and things hunkered down for winter approaching. I began (probably should have earlier) pulling up my dead flower stocks and vacuuming and organizing my dirt and toy filled porch. Outside work always seems to clear my head a little. It helps me focus on the here and now and the one or two tasks I want to get done.

Being outside, I have been thinking about the lamb. Not only all the coordinating and planning to be able to get our customers our product, but also the true lamb. You see, sheep are shy and scared animals. They like to travel in flocks with other sheep they are comfortable with. They do not like to be out of their comfort zone. They run into gates or walls trying it to get back to their friends. If you would like them to go one way, they most likely will go the other. Patience and slow, subtle movements are key with sheep.

If one of our sheep is out of place, lost or hurt Lance knows exactly who it is. If not, he can figure it out very quickly because he KNOWS everyone of them.

It is very true that we (the people) are like the shepherds lambs. He tries to direct and guide us and we scatter and flea from him. Our shepherd knows everyone of us, personally and uniquely. As that beautiful (Reckless Love) song says “Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of God. Oh, it chases me down, fights ‘til I’m found, leaves the 99. I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still You give yourself away. Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of God.” He made you, he knows you and he loves you so much.

Lance has been busy with the boys. They have been hauling bales home, working on a lean-to for our cows, as well as a wind bread. They have been pouring concrete for a second automatic waterer that we are finishing up, allowing us to be able to go back to Minnesota to see my family for Thanksgiving and our daughters second birthday!

We have more lamb product to stock up our freezer at the end of October! Most notable, fresh cheddar brats (12oz) will be available! Are you thinking about Thanksgiving?
