Dennis S. Hoffart, a devoted husband, beloved brother, and respected member of the Grand Forks community, passed away on Jan. 2, 2025, at Altru Hospital. Born on May 13, 1934, near Knox, ND, Dennis lived a life characterized by hard work, love, and an infectious smile that brightened the lives of those around him.

Dennis Steve Hoffart was born near Knox, ND on May 13, 1934, to Anton and Theresa (Klein) Hoffart. Dennis’s early years were spent on the family farm, where he cultivated a strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his career. He attended school through the 10th grade before answering his call to serve in the U.S. Army, enlisting on June 17, 1958. During his time stationed in Verdun, France, he earned his GED and reached the rank of Specialist (E-4), proudly serving until his honorable discharge on May 2, 1961.

In 1961, Dennis met the love of his life, Marion Horpestad, whom he married in Devils Lake, ND on April 27, 1963. Their relationship blossomed into a beautiful partnership, celebrated over more than 61 years of marriage. Together, they shared countless memories, fostering a family legacy rooted in love and care.

Dennis dedicated many years to the City of Grand Forks, working diligently in the sanitation department and providing assistance with snow removal during harsh winter months. His commitment to service extended beyond his profession; he was known for his warmth, compassion, and for forging connections with others.

Dennis enjoyed visits to the Shooting Star Casino and took cherished trips to Las Vegas, which he frequented ten times. His love for reading and watching TV, particularly Westerns, and his lifelong affection or borderline obsession for Coca-Cola collectables were notable elements of his personality that endeared him to friends and family alike.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Marion Hoffart; siblings: Jerome (Mary) Hoffart, Rosella Olson; brother-in-law, Kenneth Sime and sister-in-law, Nadene Hoffart. He leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that will be forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Leo (Doris), Leonard (Mary), and Richard Hoffart, sisters: Irene (Francis) Wilhelmi, Eleanor Sime, Delores Hoffart, and brother-in-law, Harold Olson.

The life of Dennis S. Hoffart will be honored with a visitation on Jan. 8, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12:30 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 1018 18th Avenue South, Grand Forks, ND 58201.
