Sharon Katherine (Becker) Zimmer, 83, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away surrounded by family on September 15, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Her funeral was held on Monday, Sept 30 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, with a rosary followed by Mass of Christian Burial.
Born in Langdon, ND, on June 12, 1941, Sharon was the third of four children to William and Esther (Peterson) Becker. She graduated in 1959 from Perham High School in Perham, MN, and went on to study nursing in Rochester, MN. After graduating from nursing school she moved to Fargo, ND, and soon thereafter to Colorado Springs, taking a job at Penrose Hospital. She met the love of her life, Eugene Zimmer, and the two were married July 25, 1966, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Perham. Sharon continued working as a nurse until the birth of her first child, and then dedicated her life to family. In 1996 Sharon entered another joyful season of her life as she became Nana to the first of 25 grandchildren. She became a great grandmother in July 2024.
An avid tennis player, skier, camper and hostess, Sharon will be remembered by all who knew her as a strong woman of faith, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, Nana, sister, aunt, and friend. Incredibly social, she filled life with joy, laughter, smiles, and cookies. Sharon’s greatest joy was her Catholic faith and her family, and she relished the peaceful moments holding her sweet grandbabies.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 58 years Eugene, their five children Peter (Kristin), Mark (Vicki), John (Barbara), Thomas (Cristin), Ann Walker (Tyson), and her three siblings, Don Becker (Joanne), Carole Peck (Frank), and Tom Becker (Sharon), and 25 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
