Patricia Carol Wilhelmi was born at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND on March 28, 1941. The daughter of Charles and Mary (Steffan) Wilhelmi, she was the eldest of eight children. Pat grew up on a farm five miles east of Garske, ND. She started her education in a one room country school house a quarter of a mile from her home. After eighth grade she attended St Mary’s High School in Devils Lake for one year before transferring to Starkweather Public School, graduating in May, 1959. Pat then attended Josef’s School of Hair Design in Fargo, ND and after becoming a certified beautician returned to Devils Lake and became employed at Mae’s Beauty Shop.
February, 1961 Pat married Ronald Wass in Starkweather, ND, and they made their home in Devils Lake, ND for a few years before moving to Northglenn, CO. Of this union, her four children – Bradley, Bryan, Brenda and Barbara – would be born.
May, 1988 Pat married George Larson in Brighton, CO. In the fall of 1988 they moved to Orchard, NE, where they renovated an old Victorian home together and spent their retirement years. George passed away July, 2006 and Pat continued to live in the house she so loved.
As a young person, Pat enjoyed roller skating (and was very good at it) and dancing. Later it would be a garden and flower beds that would keep her busy. She always was up for a round or two of a good card game, of which she usually won. She looked forward to people, especially family, coming for visits and always had baked goods ready and waiting. Her grandchildren’s special request – caramel rolls!
Pat was very active in her community, whether it was working at the Church Thrift Store, preparing and serving meals at the Community Center or being a part of her Christian Mothers Group. She enjoyed being around people.
