Eugene Davidson passed away at his home in Devils Lake on Feb. 27, 2023, after a long struggle with two traumatic brain injuries. He was 59.
Gene was born on March 31, 1963, the youngest of 4 children.
Gene had a wonderful childhood. He grew up hunting and trapping, riding dirt bikes, snowmobiling, snow/water skiing and playing with his brothers, sister and Wayne Spidahl.
Gene had a great sense of humor his entire life. Growing up, Gene was at trap shoots almost weekly in the summers with his family. He was proud of winning the ND State titles in the Sub-junior class in 1976 and 1977. In 1978, he won the ND Jr. Singles and was also the ND handicap champion. 1976 was also the year he won the Vandalia OH Grand American Sub-Jr. ATA Singles Championship (198 x 200) as well as the MEN’s Class C Singles Championship. Both of these he had to win in separate shoot-offs!
Gene was 15 years old in 1976 which was quite an accomplishment for such a young man.
In 1981 Gene graduated from Devils Lake High School and attended Lake Region Junior College. He graduated with a degree in Welding and Diesel Mechanics.
Upon graduation from LRJC, he worked at miscellaneous jobs for a short time, but decided to follow his dad’s footsteps and started Davidson Construction. This was a perfect fit for his skills. He was good at figuring things out, and loved working on and operating big equipment, the bigger the better.
Gene’s brother Jim moved back in 1989 and they started Lake Region Asphalt together. It was a successful venture.
Gene is survived by his brothers Doug (Donna) Davidson, Jim Davidson, and his sister Nancy Schmitz (Rick). He is also survived by a son Trent Davidson, and his best friend, Wayne Spidahl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents.
Gene will be missed by all of us.
