Galen Abraham GreyBear, 30, of the Spirit Lake Nation, began his journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Devils Lake, ND.

The Wake for Galen will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Isabel’s Home: 3915 72nd Avenue NE, Fort Totten, ND. The procession will leave at 4:45 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2023 from Hwy 281/ Hwy 57 Junction to Isabel’s Home. Funeral Services for Galen will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the Crow Hill Rec Center in Fort Totten, ND. The procession will be leaving at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, from Isabel’s Home: 3915 72nd Avenue NE Fort Totten, ND, to the Crow Hill Rec Center. Burial will be held at the Crow Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.

Galen Abraham GreyBear was born on April 25, 1993, to Isabel Cavanaugh LeftBear and Loren GreyBear Sr. in Devils Lake, ND. He was educated at Four Wind School in Fort Totten. Galen met his long time love, Leigh Nestell, and from this relationship came two sons; Thomas Nestell and Lucas GreyBear.

Galen was employed at Sioux Manufacturing, the Four Winds High Community School, the Spirit Lake Casino and road construction. Galen liked going to the casino, playing video games, hanging out with friends, fixing his vehicles, watching YouTube and playing pool. His favorite past time was spent with his sons, nieces and nephews. Galen was proud that he rededicated his life to God in Mobridge, SD. Galen will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Galen is survived by his special friend, Leigh Nestell; two sons, Thomas and Lucas; mother, Isabel LeftBear (Clarence); father, Loren GreyBear Sr.; sisters, Lorenda GreyBear and Danica GreyBear; brothers, Loren GreyBear Jr. (Lucy), Dedrick GreyBear and Lyle GreyBear; aunts, Annabel DeMarce, Guadelupe Crawford (Drnell); special uncle, Jesse Cavanaugh (Angela); special nieces, Aaliyah Kameron and Kasey Jewel; special nephews, Samuel, Kenyon, Jaden and Tylin; uncles, Paul Henry Cavanaugh, Myron GreyBear, Melvin GreyBear Jr., Bentley GreyBear Sr. and Everette Comer; grandmothers, Loraine GreyBear, Genevieve Liberty and M. Yvonne Longie; extended family, The Bellangers.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin GreyBear Sr., William (Billy Bones) Cavanaugh and Bernice Juarez; aunts, Collette GreyBear and Jewel GreyBear; uncles, Leon Cavanaugh, William (Billy Boy) Cavanaugh; great-grandparents, Frank and Sylvia Cavanaugh, William Longie and Jeannette Goodhouse; cousins, Gladys Cavanaugh, Christopher Cavanaugh, Julian DeMarce and Samual DeMarce; grandfathers, Fred Longie Sr., George Longie Sr., Tim Longie Sr., Willy Longie, Lil Dave Longie; grandmothers, Evangeline White and Maggie Moxness.
