After high school, Jeanette worked at the Grayson Hotel for several years. While working at the Grayson, Jeanette would be introduced to Arvin Rohrer by Arvin’s dad, Isaac. Loved blossomed and Jeanette and Arvin were united in marriage on Dec. 22, 1956. They would share nearly 65 years of a beautiful life of love, laughter, trials, and faith in God.

They made their home on the family farm at Churchs Ferry until 2016 when they moved into Devils Lake. It was a difficult move for both of them, they loved the farm and farm life. For 27 years, they wintered in Weslaco, Texas, always enjoying time with old friends and making new ones.

Jeanette was the dedicated wife who kept everyone fed, brought hundreds of meals to the field. Every meal was homemade, always a delicious dessert and plenty to eat. She hosted many family events and holidays. Arvin didn’t have much of an eye for fashion so she made sure to lay out his clothes each day. Bringing together family and friends brought her great joy. She tended a large garden and yard. She continued to push mow the lawn well into her 70’s. They were the proud parents of four boys, Steve, Robert, James and Kent. They never missed a school activity, sporting event of the Churchs Ferry Raiders, or church program that the kids were participating in. They were their most enthusiastic cheerleaders and fans.

Jeanette was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and WELCA in Churchs Ferry where she also taught Sunday School for many years. After Zion closed, they were members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. The church where she had been baptized and confirmed. Again, she was an active member of the WELCA and helped with the many activities and projects of the church. She also volunteered many hours to RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), and enjoyed membership in the Eastern Star, local Homemakers Club and the Elks Lodge. Jeanette faithfully served as the Irvine Township Treasurer for 43 years.

Jeanette moved through 97 plus years with the quiet grace of a prayer, a devoted wife and mother of four sons whose love never wavered.
