Things are popping up slowly in the garden and the fields are slowly turning green! Well, most of them…hoping for a good stretch of weather so that farmers can get in the field and finish up some seeding that is left! I saw my beets coming up, and the onions are doing well, too! I also have been working on pulling weeds out of my strawberry and raspberry patches! That is a job!
We made smash burgers for the first time this year. Have you ever had or made one? Basically, it is a burger that is super thin because…you guessed it; it has been smashed/flattened. I love how thin they are compared to a regular homemade burger! Throw on your favorite burger toppings and serve with baked fries and watermelon! Yum! You have the perfect summer meal.
Smash Burgers
Makes 8 2oz burger patties.
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 8 slices of cheese
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Your Favorite Hamburger Buns (Homemade are good!)
- Butter
Start by heating a cast iron pan (2 if you have them. One is for toasting the hamburger buns.) or your flat top grill to a medium-high heat. While that is heating up weigh out your burgers or split the pound into 8 equal pieces.
I do a 2 oz per burger patty. Shape each into a round ball and set aside while you prepare the buns.
Take and slice your hamburger buns if they haven’t been already. Butter each lightly and put face down on the heated cast iron pan. Toast for 3-5 minutes until they are warm and have a golden-brown surface.
Next on the other cast iron pan take 2 round burger balls and place them on the pan or grill. Smash the burger ¼ inch thick with a grill weight, flat spatula or a glass depending on what you have.
Grill on each side for 2-3 minutes, sprinkling salt and pepper to taste on each side. Add cheese and let melt. These are simple and delicious! Enjoy!
