It has been over a month since Jemini Posey went missing but that hasn’t stopped the community from holding out hope of finding her. On Friday evening Feb. 16, the community of Fort Totten came out to bring positive energy with a prayer circle.

During the prayer circle, Posey’s sister spoke to the attendees. As well, both a Lakota and Christian prayer were performed. On display were different colored shawls. Each color represents solidarity with victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and other crimes affecting indigenous women.

A traditional drumming ceremony also took place as well as the opportunity to hug and speak to Posey’s family to show support. Red balloons were also given to the family and released outside, a common act done when people gather for a missing person.

“I don’t want this to divide people. I don’t want this cause to arguments among people,” said Posey’s sister Jade LaVonne. “I want the truth and I want change. I want some kind of change to come out of this.

Efforts to find Posey still remain. If you have any information, please reach out to the Fort Totten Police Department at 701-766-4231. The number for the Devils Lake Police Department is 701-662-0700.
