Few events in the Lake Region draw more people to the area than the annual Fort Totten Days Powwow. This year’s celebration of Dakota culture is the 55th in a row and it looks to be bigger and better than ever.

If you’ve never attended, know that everyone is welcome, it’s not just for people from Fort Totten.

The powwow grounds is located south of Four Winds School and is named after an honored member of the Sprit Lake Nation, Andrew Shaw, who spent a number of years as a prisioner of war in the Korean War. If you’re coming from Devils Lake, take the first turn past the Four Winds’ parking lot and follow the road south and past the rodeo grounds to the Powwow Grounds – you can’t miss it when you get close to it.

Activities are scheduled Thursday through Sunday beginning with the Fort Totten Days Pageant, Thursday at 5 p.m. where they crown new royalty.

Friday at 8 a.m. there will be a flag raising ceremony in the arena and registration takes place starting at 5 p.m. Roll call for all drum groups participating will take place at 6:45 p.m. and Grand Entry is at 7 p.m.
