Devils Lake Police Department (DLPD) and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) report the following:
June 6: An auto collision occurred at 11:49 a.m. between two vehicles near the Lake Region Public Library. The driver of the first vehicle stated she was going northbound on 5th Ave. NE and didn’t see the other vehicle until the crash. The driver of the second vehicle stated that she didn’t remember what had happened.
According to a ring camera from a residence on 7th St. NE, the second vehicle was going westbound on 7th St. NE. Damage to Vehicle 1 was airbag deployment and total front-end damage; damage to Vehicle 2 was substantial left front damage and side airbag deployment. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Based on the damage and video, DLPD officers determined that Vehicle 1 had to be going northbound on 5th Ave. NE, as the driver attested, when Vehicle 2 entered the intersection and was crashed into. Vehicle 2 had the stop sign on 7th St. NE.
Initially, Driver 1 was cited but after video information was obtained, the citation was withdrawn. Driver 1 was transported to the ER by Lake Region Ambulance Service for evaluation.
June 7: RCSO reported that two search-and-rescue callouts occurred over the weekend for boaters that were caught up in the waves on Devils Lake. The first incident that occurred in the early afternoon included two individuals in a kayak, a mother and 9-year-old son, with only the son wearing a life jacket.
The second incident later in the day around 6 p.m. involved a boat that overturned, and that occupant was also not wearing a life jacket. The Sheriff’s Office reminds boaters to always wear a life jacket when out on the lake, stay with the boat even if it overturns, check weather reports prior to going out on the lake, and to let someone know where and when you are going out so they can check on you if needed.
