Altru Health System and CommonSpirit Health have officially completed the transaction to transfer ownership of CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake to Altru Health System, effective March 1, 2026,marking an important milestone in expanding access to care across the Lake Region.
The transition brings the Devils Lake Hospital under Altru Health System, strengthening local access to comprehensive, high quality care while ensuring patients can continue to receive services close to home. Going forward, the hospital will now be known as Altru Hospital Devils Lake.
On Monday, March 2 a flurry of activity surrounded the Altru Hospital Devils Lake as Indigo Signs arrived just after 10 a.m. and took down the old signage that was then replaced by new.
Tanner White, the C.E.O. of the Altru Hospital Devils Lake expressed how excited they are about the transaction and looks forward to providing the care Altru is well known for, right here at home.
“Now we do what we do best,” White stated in a brief interview with the Devils Lake Journal.
This has been a lengthy journey for many who have invested in the process for a number of years, including the city’s former Mayor Dick Johnson and present Mayor Jim Moe, with many, many others from throughout the community.
The first step is working closely with hospital leadership ensuring continuity of care for the community. Medical records are being fully synchronized across the network, and the provider team will support both Altru Hospital Devils Lake and Altru Clinic Devils Lake.
Future steps include bringing specialty outreach to the Lake Region, like a hand specialist, offering surgical and non-surgical remedies, plus others down the road and closer to home.
