NCAC Art Redux/Art for Life event coming to Pekin
The Nelson County Arts Council (NCAC) is hosting its first Art Redux, a fancy Latin word meaning “to be brought back” or “to use post-positively.” Generous donors have gifted the Council previously purchased and original art that will be auctioned on Sunday, Sep. 28, 2025, at the Pekin Auditorium.
The art is stunning! The leading item of the auction literally fell out of the wall of a shed that was being moved. This unique, old piece is painted on both sides, by two different artists.
Several other pieces are by local artists and other artists who have participated in NCAC activities. Origins of other pieces are unknown. All need new owners to refresh homes and businesses.
Further enhancing the Art Redux Auction, Art for Life directors, Amy Jo and David Paukert, will have a display and presentation of their work with Nelson County Nursing Home Residents. Art for Life is possible from a grant the NCAC received from ND Council on the Arts to bring art to Nelson County Nursing Homes. The Paukert’s holistic approach to their bi-monthly sessions includes theme history, music and hands-on creations. Several Nursing Home Artists will be joining Amy Jo & David, giving you the opportunity to honor their success.
In addition to the Art Redux Auction, Art for Life directors, Amy Jo and David Paukert, will have a display and presentation of the classes they have been doing with residents from the three Nelson County elder care facilities. There will also be a short ceremony where those who have been participating in the program will be honored and recognized.
The Art for Life program is made possible by a grant that the Nelson County Arts Council received from the ND Council on the Arts. The program was created to improve the emotional and physical health and wellness of elders in care facilities through participation in the Arts. To achieve this goal, the Paukerts have developed a holistic approach where their bi-monthly sessions focus on various topics they feel will be of interest to the participants. Each lesson includes a discussion time on the theme for the day as well as related music activity, an art or craft project, and sometimes a collaborative creative writing experience.
A $10.00 entrance fee gets you into this Autumn celebration, Sunday, Sep. 28, 2025, at the Pekin Auditorium beginning with a 12:00 p.m. (noon) reception of brats & hot dogs with all the fixings, homemade pretzels, salads, bars and beverages that include beer, wine and apple cider.
View the Art Redux pieces, chat with the Paukert’s and their senior artists, and even shop on the NCAC Stage Mercantile which will be selling smaller pieces of art, canned goods and fall produce.
The Art for Life presentation begins at 1:00 p.m. followed by the 1:30 p.m. Art Redux Auction with auctioneer Terry Ellingson. Over 60 pieces will be auctioned.
Want to preview the show? The displays are open Friday & Saturday, Sep. 26 & 27 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Also check out their Facebook page for sneak peeks.
