Two area football teams remained at No. 1 in their respective divisions Wednesday — one team from the north end of the Lake Region, and the other from the south end.

New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock came in at No. 1 in the NDAPSSA’s nine-man football poll for the third straight week. Langdon Area/Munich, meanwhile, was ranked No. 1 in Division A for the second straight week.

NR-S/M is off to a 3-0 start. Dating back to last year, it has won 15 straight games, with a margin of 30-plus points in each.

Most recently, the Rockets won 66-6 over Larimore. Quarterback Easton Simon was 21-for-22 in passing before giving way to the reserves with over four minutes left in the first half.

NR-S/M received 11 of the 17 first-place votes, giving it 79 points overall. LaMoure-Litchville/Marion received the other six-place votes, earning 70 points. The Loboes are 2-0, having had a bye on Aug. 29.

In Division A, LA/M is 3-0. The Cardinals beat Harvey/Wells County 36-8 last Friday. They’ve outscored opponents 104-14 through three games.

They led the way with 13 of the 17 first-place votes and 79 points. Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm received the other four first-place votes and 71 overall points.

Nearby Nelson County is also off to a 3-0 start. Senior quarterback Brody Rainsberry has rushed for 743 yards and thrown for 171.

The Chargers are yet to receive any votes in the weekly polls. But they’re tied with No. 1 NR-S/M and No. 4 North Border for first place in a 10-team Region 2. There are nine 3-0 teams in nine-man football.

Also in that region, Four Winds is having a solid year with a 2-1 record. Its only loss is to No. 4 North Border.

NR-S/M will face North Border in a top-five matchup this Friday.
