In the first year of the revitalized Devils Lake boys’ golf program, the Firebirds will be represented at state.

Junior Braxton Boline qualified on Thursday at the Devils Lake Invitational. He shot three over par with a score of 75, coming in 13th place overall. The best score at the meet was 70, shot by golfers from Fargo Davies and Fargo North.

Rylan Swenson (87), Mathew Graue (91), Brody Hodous (95), Weston Stromme (97) and Carson Hogness (99) all broke 100. Devils Lake was 60 over par as a team, coming in 11th out of 12 squads.

The Firebirds also sit 11th out of 12 in the EDC standings, ahead of only Valley City, with 23 total points.

Boline is the second Devils Lake golfer to reach the state tournament this school year, following Ava Beck, who made the girls’ tournament in the fall. It’s the first year of golf returning to Devils Lake for both the boys and the girls.

Boline is also a member of the hockey team. He scored some critical goals down the stretch of the season.

The boys’ state golf tournament is scheduled for June 3-4 at Vardon Golf Club in Minot.
