Ava Gourd, a senior from the Four Winds/Minnewaukan girls’ basketball team, has signed to play for Dakota College at Bottineau. Four Winds High School announced the news Tuesday, along with a series of celebratory photos.
Gourd missed some time due to injury this past season, but she was third on the Indians with 7.7 points per game. She led the team in assists per game with 4.8. She added 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest.
Gourd is a cousin of freshman standout Suri Gourd. That also makes her a niece of FW/M head coach Sean Gourd Sr. She was a key player on the Indians’ volleyball team as well.
She’ll join the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference next year, competing with teams like Lake Region State College and United Tribes Technical College. The Lumberjacks went 15-15 overall this season and 7-9 in conference play, finishing sixth out of eight teams in the conference, right behind LRSC.
They were eliminated in the Region XIII playoffs by a UTTC team that had fellow Four Winds alumni Alionna Lawrence and Ezura Rainbow.
Gourd was the only senior on an otherwise young FW/M team this season.
