The Lake Region State College men’s hockey won both its games against Williston State College over the weekend.

It was part of a busy few days for both the men’s and women’s squads.

The men’s team, after losing 6-4 to Providence at home on Thursday, bounced back with a 6-4 win over WSC on Friday at Burdick Arena. The Royals trailed 4-2 going into the third period, but they outscored the Tetons 4-0 the rest of the way. Alex Gellner, Kaleb Hodny, Tyler Kleinjan, Brady Regner, Griffin Anderson and Cullen Schmaltz each scored a goal.

Goalie Logan Hendrickson allowed three goals in the first period. Rowan Cherkas took over for him and only permitted one goal for the remainder of the game.

The Royals won in more emphatic fashion Saturday, pounding WSC 7-0. Once again, all the goals came from different players: Brady Wicklund, Schmaltz, Gellner, Hodny, Regner, Matt Besse and Dylan Matthews.

Hendrickson played all 60 minutes at goalie this time and didn’t allow a goal, collecting 39 saves.

The LRSC men’s team is now 4-7 overall after starting the season 0-4. They’ll be back home against Augustana on Nov. 9 and 10. They previously played two games against Augustana on the road, splitting the two games.

The LRSC women’s team, which started the season on a stronger note, had a less fortunate weekend. After going 2-0 on the road against Augustana, the Royals lost their home opener to North Dakota State University on Friday before dropping two games on the road to Assiniboine Community College — the last game by forfeit.

Goalie Abby Stewart-Fromm had 55 saves in 61 attempts on Saturday, as the team traveled up to Canada to play Assiniboine. The Royals’ offense managed only 11 shots on goal all game.

The squads were scheduled to face off again on Sunday, but LRSC determined that it didn’t have enough healthy skaters to compete. The Royals’ roster is already relatively small at 11 players, and only nine were listed in the box score of Saturday’s game.

The women were previously scheduled for a home-and-home with Dakota College at Bottineau this weekend, but both those games have been postponed. As of now, the Royals are still scheduled to host Augustana on Nov. 9 and 10.
