Devils Lake, ND – April 17, 2024 – The Devils Lake Youth Volleyball 14U team, comprising eighth graders from Devils Lake Central Middle School and one seventh grader, has successfully secured an invitation to compete in the USA Volleyball National Tournament in Las Vegas, scheduled for July 8-11, 2024.
Since January, the team has been actively participating in tournaments across North Dakota, showcasing their exceptional talent and dedication. Their remarkable journey has seen them claim six gold bracket championships in cities like Bismarck, Fargo, Minot, and Valley City.
In their third year together, the team set their sights on qualifying for the National Tournament. They traveled to the nearest qualifiers in Minnesota, where during the regional qualifier in Bloomington on March 9-10, they narrowly missed securing a bid to nationals by just one game. However, their outstanding performance positioned them as strong contenders, and their perseverance paid off when they received a call from the North Country Region of USA Volleyball on Easter weekend. The team was informed that due to a double qualification by another team, they were next in line for a national bid. Following unanimous agreement among the parents, the team eagerly accepted the invitation.
The national tournament, held annually in different locations, will be hosted at the Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas, where Devils Lake will compete against 63 other teams from across the country in the American Division over the four-day event.
As the team prepares for the national tournament, they are actively fundraising to cover their travel expenses. Unlike larger club volleyball organizations, the Devils Lake team operates as a “town team,” with no player fees. Coach Christy Remmick generously volunteers her time to coach the team, which includes her twin daughters. While the team has received support from local funding sources like Devils Lake Youth Activities in the past, additional support is needed for their national endeavor. The team is planning various community initiatives, including a summer camp for younger players, setting up food stands, and other creative fundraising efforts.
The roster for the Devils Lake Youth Volleyball 14U team includes Riley Remmick, Emersyn Remmick, Trinity Kus, Rose Herrera, Kaigen Olson, Emma Hofstad, Elin Skaar, Jolie Cavanaugh, Lola Nelson, and Berginn Yoder.
