Donald “Don” Nicholas Mueller, 88 went home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Eventide Heartland Care Center.
Born on March 29, 1936, to Nicholas and Eleanor (Frederics) Mueller at the family farm home, rural Calio, ND. He began his schooling at Sievert Township school until the family moved to Devils Lake in 1947. He continued his education at St. Mary’s Academy.
On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Doris Dykhoff at St. Mary’s Church in Lakota, ND. They became the proud parents of Kevin, Paul, Eric, and Michelle.
He was employed by Mercy Hospital and Leevers Super Value until he opened his own business, Central Service, a farm implement business in Devils Lake.
In 1973, the family moved to a farm near Calio where his love for farming began. Working his land was a great joy and passing his work ethics and farm to his son and grandson was a blessing to him. He was an accomplished carpenter and fixer-upper and always ready and willing to lend a hand.
He spent many years on the Sievert Township Board and also drove school bus for Munich School. Don was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and also enjoyed many years as a member of the Elks and Eagles Lodges.
He was a quiet man, a gentle man, and we will so miss him.
Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris; son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Jan Mueller, Munich ND; daughter Michelle Hunt, Spokane Valley, Washington; six grandchildren Wes and Molly Mueller, Ali and Jared Wilhelmi, Rhiannon and Justin Cochrane, Chase and Nerissa Rinas, Logan Berg and Stryder Rinas; great grandchildren Addison, Trent, Rhett, Brody, Tate, Maisey and baby girl Rinas due in July; sister Mary Jane Bannach.
He was preceded in death by his sons Paul and Eric, his parents Nick and Eleanor and in-laws Frank and Pauline Dykhoff.
Casket Bearers will be Mark Geller, Michael Bannach, Glen Weber, Ron Falk, Weston Mueller and Jared Wilhelmi. Reading Scripture will be Michael Bannach and bringing the Eucharistic Gifts Ali Wilhelmi, Molly Mueller, Rhiannon Cochrane, Rhett, Brody, Addison and Trent. Music will be provided by Patty Cote.
There will be a visitation at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake and burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday at the church at 9:30 a.m.
