Annette Hofstad

Annette Hofstad, of Devils Lake, ND, passed away in her home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 78.

Annette, a beloved mother, grandmother, partner, sister and friend, was born on July 24, 1947, in Devils Lake, N. D. She was raised on a farm outside of Hampden and later near Starkweather, where her deep roots in community and connection first began to grow.

Annette attended Starkweather High School, where she met the love of her life, Curtis Hofstad. The two were married for 48 years until Curtis’s passing in 2016, building a life grounded in family, dedication, and shared history. She went on to earn a degree in nursing, beginning a lifelong career defined by care for others.

Annette was the proud mother of Shannon, Chad (Allison), and Nicole, and a devoted grandmother to Hayden, Drew, Emma, Isla, Samuel, and Adela. Her grandchildren were a constant source of joy, and she rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on at their many activities and sporting events.

Later in life, Annette found companionship and happiness with her partner, Dennis. The two met through a family connection on Facebook and shared five meaningful years together. Their time was marked by laughter, care, and a shared commitment to living each day fully.

Annette’s life was rich with passions and community involvement. She was an avid quilter, gardener, and cook, known especially for her homemade salsa and sauerkraut. She enjoyed golfing, spending time at Woodlake, and gathering with her book club, sorority sisters, and many friends. Whether participating in local organizations, supporting the College Foundation, or contributing to events connected to Fort Totten, Annette was deeply engaged in the life of her community.

Annette was known for bringing humor and joy to those around her. Always ready with a witty quip, wherever she went, laughter was sure to follow. Her lightness, resilience, and ability to find joy left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Hofstad, her parents, Malior and Marie (Ziegler) Gette and her brothers Daniel Gette and Rodney Gette.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, partner, and her siblings: Robert, Janel, Larry, Timothy, Allen, Claudia, Tony, Randy, Mel, Lauri, Berni and Jerry.

Visitation was on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with a Rosary and Scripture Service.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.

Fellowship followed in the Parish Center.
