Cynthia Theresa LaMorte (Wilhelmi) passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60 at her home in Williston, ND on Monday, Feb. 23. Daughter of Francis and Irene (Hoffart) Wilhelmi, she was born on Nov. 5, 1965, in Grafton, N.D. She grew up in Devils Lake with her seven siblings and attended Central High School.
Cindy was blessed with the birth of her only daughter Nicole. Cindy made it her life’s goal to provide a loving home for her daughter. After a few years living in Devils Lake, they made Washburn, N.D. their home where she raised her daughter.
She worked at Dakota Farms in Washburn as a cook and later worked for her sister and brother-in-law at the Captain’s Cabin in Washburn. In 2006, she met the love of her life, David LaMorte. In two short years, on Nov. 19, 2008, they were married in Las Vegas. Soon after, they moved to Williston N.D. and made it their home for the past 17 years. While living in Williston, she began working at Dakota Farms as the lead cook until her passing. Dakota Farms was not just her work, but her second family. She loved all her coworkers from Washburn to Williston. Most of her coworkers became lifelong friends, with relationships she truly cherished.
To say Cindy was the life of the party, well, that is an understatement. She was a rock star. She had a vibrant spirit with a love for socializing. She focused deeply on memories and relationships. She loved her daughter, husband, family, and friends fiercely. She had infectious joy—celebrating life to the fullest.
She loved big hair, bling, loud 80s hair bands, and spent the last few years traveling the country going to every concert she could attend. While traveling, she finally got to see the ocean, the mountains, and the open road with her best friend. Her last concert was in Vegas this past fall where she was able to see her dream singer, Stevie Nicks, perform.
Cindy leaves behind a legacy of laughter, countless friendships, and firm believer of “Let’s live life because tomorrow is never promised.”
Cindy’s loving family include her husband Dave; daughter Nicole (Chris) Widhalm and the grand dog Akeyla of Bismarck; stepdaughter Latoya LaMorte and grandchildren Jamiah And Asia of Spokane, WA; siblings Larry Wilhelmi, Gary (Rose) Wilhelmi, Margie Possen, Pam Wilhelmi, Kevin (Gayle) Wilhelmi all of Devils Lake and Keith (Laura) Wilhelmi of Onawa, Iowa; sisters-in-law Lori Wilhelmi and Wendy LaMorte (Ron Hadwiger): many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was reunited with her parents Francis and Irene, brothers Michael and Roger, brother-in-law Ron Possen; nephew Shane Wilhelmi and mother-in-law Patricia (LaMorte) Soule.
