Phyllis Ann (Zettler) Eback was born on Jan. 27, 1939, to Benjamin and Myrtle (Thompson) Zettler at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND. She grew up in Devils Lake and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School.
She met the love of her life Anton “Tony” Eback and they married on Oct. 15, 1958. They briefly lived in Crary, ND and then lived on various farms in the Devils Lake area before buying a home in Devils Lake.
When her children got a little bit older, she worked as a waitress and then had a home Daycare. The children she babysat were always treated as family and they affectionately called her Grandma. To this day, even as adults they will ask how grandma is doing.
Phyllis was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family was always number one to her and she loved spending time with them all. She was always baking and making homemade meals, not only for her family, but also for her neighborhood kids. There were many times she would be making her famous chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and the neighbors would smell it and come over and fight with their kids over the frosting bowl.
If there wasn’t a deck of cards on the table at some point, it was not a complete family gathering. She loved to play all kinds of games and overall, didn’t really care if she won or not, just wanted to spend the time together. Although she most likely would brag if she did win.
Phyllis was the loving, witty, funny, safe, wife, mother, sister, grandma, aunt, and friend. She treasured her family and missed the love of her life like crazy after his passing in 2003 but stayed strong for the family.
Phyllis’s loving family includes her children: Debbie (Punky) Lindenberg, Rita Nelson, Lynn (Brian) Hoffmeyer, Wayne (Tammy) Eback, Gary (Karen) Eback, Brenda Dick, Daniel Eback, and Michelle Eback: grandchildren Lacey (Derek “Doc”), Amanda, Kerri (Samuel), Nicole, Jamey (Jen), Brittany, Brian, Travis, Ashley, Michael, Kendra, Kirsten, Tony, Tyler, Sheila, Shelby, Patrick (Cassie), Jerad (Amanda), Nathan, Stephanie (Cody), and Justin: great grandchildren Macey, Gavin, Avery, Nolan, Piper, Rayden, Kylen, Ezra, Camson, Hunter, Jax, Payton, Malachi, Anton Steven, Cody, Shelby, Rylie, Anton, Noah, Odin, Gunner, Bridger, Brooke, and Brenner; great great granddaughter Jolee; sister Janice Keller; brother-in-law Benny Eback; many nieces, nephews and their family and special friends the Grafsgaard family and the Zahursky family.
She was reunited with her parents, husband Anton, son Steven Eback, sister Doris Hoffart, brother Richard Zettler, sons-in-law Kenny Dick and Curtis Nelson, daughter-in-law Tricia Eback; great granddaughter Kateri Schlosser and many other loved ones.
