Father Bernard Pfau, Devils Lake, ND, celebrated his 60th Anniversary of his ordination as a priest of the Diocese of Fargo on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
Oh, he’s not retiring, quite the contrary, in his closing remarks at the KC Hall before Bishop John Folda, numerous priests, monsignors, deacons, family members, former parishioners and friends the more than 80-year old stated he would continue to serve as a diocesan priest “as long as I can!”
His reminiscences brought forth many laughs from the over 300 people gathered at the meal to celebrate his life and work as a Roman Catholic priest. Some lighthearted teasing was mixed in with heart-felt testimonials from clergy and former parishioners showed how beloved Fr. Pfau is to many.
The day began with Mass at 4 p.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at the corner of 4th Street and 6th Avenue NE in Devils Lake where you will often find Fr. Pfau helping to celebrate Mass or providing sacraments to the faithful from throughout the region.
He also helps the Devils Lake Journal providing thoughtful reflections for the Church Page every Thursday as he contributes, himself, or encourages other clergy to contribute, as well.
Actually Fr. Pfau is retired, he lives not too far from St. Joe’s and he serves where he is needed covering parishes throughout this part of North Dakota when a pastor is sick, or has to be out of town for some reason or another. Add a little time on the golf course to his busy schedule and this is what retirement looks like for him. Congratulations on 60 years serving others, Fr. Pfau!
