The Devils Lake School Board held a regular meeting on Monday. Oct. 28. Here are some highlights from the meeting.

Choice Ready statistics were presented at the meeting. Choice Ready is a new component in the North Dakota accountability system that measures whether high schools in the state produce students who are ready for success upon graduation. The metrics outlined within the Choice Ready initiative are intended to measure growth for North Dakota high schools, as indicated by student readiness upon high school graduation.
Superintendent Ned Clooten commented that for essential skills they want to prioritize the word “essential” and the goal should be 100%. Some of the skills include providing hours of community service, 95% attendance rate, and two or more years in organized extracurricular activities.
Attendance and chronic absenteeism statistics were presented. The absentee rate in July 2023 was 25.7% and the goal is to get it to 14% in July 20238. The target goal was 24% in 2024 with the actual data being 26%. Clooten said they will “continue to solve the issue.” The school provides family mentors who reach out to students and their families in the case of chronic absenteeism and is also able to provide rides to those without reliable transportation.
Teacher of the quarter was awarded to Brittany Bruner, CMS English teacher.
Classified employee of the quarter was awarded to Sonia Knutson, Administrative assistant at LACTC.
