The Ramsey County Commission held a regular meeting on Tuesday, June 4. Here are some highlights from that meeting.
Spencer Halvorson, auditor spoke about the possibility of the city taking control of the Devils Lake Airport. Currently, it’s run by an airport authority. “We got an idea of what their requirements would be if there was a change in the airport sponsor,” Halvorson said. He added, “they are lukewarm on the idea of going away from an airport authority model to a city department functioning airport. However, the city is looking to “pursue a collaborative process.” No final decision has been rendered as there is legal ink that needs to be figured out before such a decision is made. Halvorson previously talked about it at the June 4 city commission meeting.
Rob Johnson, city assessor, spoke on the city’s taxable value. The taxable value within the city of Devils Lake went up 9.2% from 2023. Most of the increases were on the commercial side with increases resulting in about 12.57%. Residential increase was 7.02%. The assessments are final and the Ramsey County Commission approved.
The commission approved the values of townships contracted to the county for assessments.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bryan Lang appeared before the commission to ask for approval to purchase two new WatchGuard in-car camera systems. The previous models are being discontinued. “These have become very vital in our work… they are very valuable in court,” Lang said. The commission approved and the quoted price was $14,363 for the camera systems.
