The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department has issued a press release to warn about the following scams that they have become recently aware of that are targeting residents:
- · Fraudulent texts claiming to be from the North Dakota Division of Motor Vehicles, informing recipients that they have unpaid tickets, and threatening license suspension unless immediate payment is made.
- · Phone calls to residents claiming to be from a deputy of Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office named Sgt. Ben Campbell, telling callers that they missed court, so they were going to jail. The Department does not employ anyone by that name; always call the Sheriff’s Office to verify.
- · Another scam involves recipients being notified that their Apple account has been hacked, and their bank funds are at risk to be stolen.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bryan Lang reiterates that these are all scams, so beware, as they don’t want people in the community to be victimized.
“Please spread the word and also keep an eye out for our elderly as they can be easily deceived by these scams,” Lang said in his statement.
