For a number of years the 14K Fallen Soldiers Memorial Run/Walk to Camp Gilbert Grafton has taken place during the Devils Run Antique Car Show and Rod Run.
Since the War on Terror began, 14 members of the North Dakota National Guard have lost their lives.
Their sacrifice, however, does not just go away as the years pass by.
Their service and sacrifice is honored during the Fallen Soldiers Run/Walk from Devils Lake to Camp Gilbert Grafton each year. The faces and names of each soldier honored are located along the running path on cut out sillouettes that mark the route. It is a moving experience to see walkers and runners stop and give homage to the sacrifices these few have made as they finish the course.
It begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Burdick Arena on Firebird Lane. Registration is $25 per person or $15 for youth aged 12 and under. Early registration takes place the day before the run and packets may be picked up then, also. Registering by May 18, 2026, guaranteed a t-shirt.
People along the route are welcome to cheer the runners and walkers along. It is well marked through Devils Lake and south to the back entrance of Camp Grafton. Just look for the cut outs placed along the way.
