The Devils Lake Community Orchestra (DLCO) invites the public to enjoy a new season of musical performances. According to DLCO’s press release regarding their first concert, in addition to a varied selection of music, there will be the opportunity to purchase one or more delicious pies just in time for Thanksgiving.
Under the direction of conductor Jeremiah Johnson, the first concert of the new season, called “Beyond the Harvest Moon,” is scheduled for Nov. 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Devils Lake High School, and will feature a variety of musical selections, including Marche Militaire Francaise from the Algerian Suite composed by Camille Saint-Saens, Leroy Anderson’s Lullaby of the Drums, Handel’s Overture Music for the Royal Fireworks, and a medley from the Tony Award-winning musical anthology production “Jerome Robbins Broadway.” The concert will also have a tribute to Frank Sinatra called “Salute to Ol’ Blue Eyes,” arranged by John Moss, that features several of Sinatra’s notable hits.
In addition to the music, there will also be many assorted pies for sale to help fund new performance risers, which are portable tiered music stages for the orchestra. The cost of the risers is nearly $12,000; approximately one-third of that amount has already been raised thanks to a grant from the Devils Lake Area Foundation, fundraisers, and other generous donations. According to the press release, the new risers will assist the orchestra in “reaching new heights” through orchestral visibility and improved acoustics, and will make their debut at the December Christmas concert. The portable stages will also be shared with other groups performing at Lake Region State College.
The DLCO will also perform at a special concert on Dec. 15 at Central Middle School, and will also feature Devils Lake High School bands and the Devils Lake Community Band. Rounding out the year is a DLCO Christmas concert scheduled for Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Lake Region State College auditorium, featuring a medley of holiday music.
Ticket prices for DLCO concerts are $10 for adults. Students and children attend free of charge. Complimentary tickets are available to concert donors. New membership tiers were recently established with ticket bonuses. The tiers begin with Patron Member (donation of $50), Major Chord Member (donation of $100 with two complimentary tickets), Signature Member ($200 with four complimentary tickets), Chair Member (donation of $350 receives six complimentary tickets) and Podium Member (donation of $600 or more receives six tickets plus the name of the donor(s) printed in the concert program).
