Working at the Devils Lake Journal over the past two years has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. When I first came to Devils Lake as a junior, I didn’t know what the future would hold, but stepping into this role as a photographer opened doors I never could have imagined.

Covering sports for the Journal gave me more than just a chance to sharpen my skills but it allowed me to truly connect with this community. Being on the sidelines and behind the lens at football games, basketball tournaments, and everything in between taught me the importance of capturing not just action, but also emotion, memorable moments, and true friendship among each team.

These photos weren’t just images; they were memories for families, athletes, and fans, and it has been a privilege to help tell Devils Lake’s story through my work.

Now, as I leave here as a graduated senior, it’s hard to put into words just how much this opportunity has meant to me. I’ll miss the adrenaline of game nights, the late hours spent editing, and the excitement of seeing a photo bring a smile to someone’s face.

More than anything, though, I’ll miss the people who made this journey so special, the athletes who left it all on the court or field, the coaches who welcomed me in the dugout or locker room, and the community that supported me every step of the way.

Devils Lake has been more than just a place I lived for two years; it has truly become a second home. The lessons I’ve learned and the memories I’ve made here will stay with me long after I move on.

Looking back, I am incredibly thankful for every opportunity and challenge this job has given me. It’s clear to me and my family that the Lord led us to Devils Lake for a reason, and we couldn’t be more thankful for the kindness and hospitality this community has shown us from the very beginning.

The Journal gave me a platform to grow as a photographer, to learn responsibility, and to discover just how much I love capturing memorable moments. It taught me that photography is more than a skill—it’s a way of building connections and preserving the moments that matter most.

I know these experiences will continue to guide me as I pursue my future, and I will always carry a part of Devils Lake with me wherever I go.
