Runnings had their official grand opening on Friday, April 25.

Runnings, a Minnesota-based company, acquired Home of Economy in May of last year. Grand openings also occurred in Minot, Rugby, and numerous cities throughout the state.

Runnings sells clothing, home furniture, housewares, automotive goods, tools, farm supplies, hardware, garden supplies, paint, pet supplies, hunting and fishing equipment, and sporting goods.

Members of the Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Jim Moe, and others attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday afternoon.

“Thank you for coming to our community, and everybody together here today for what is a beautiful day to have an open house,” said Moe. “Thank you for all that you have done to update [the store], coming to our community and to help support us.”

Store manager Bradley Haugland told the Journal, “We’ve gotten a lot more stuff for customers trying to meet all the different varieties of needs here in Devils Lake. We’ve got tourism, we’ve got a lot of carpentry stuff going on.”

He added, “We’ve also got hunting, fishing, a lot of farm stuff. A little bit of everything, trying to meet what the customer needs and wants.”

Haugland said long-term goals include expansion, “To get a little bit of a bigger building” and a “Greenhouse coming next year.”
