What was once the Walmart building in Devils Lake has taken on an entirely new identity under the leadership of City Plaza CEO Reg Herman. Transformed into a vibrant community center, the space is now unrecognizable as a former big-box store. Herman recently shared with the Journal that it had long been his dream for the facility to become a place dedicated to healing, health, and wellness. While the transformation hasn’t unfolded exactly as he once imagined, that vision is clearly coming to life.

Today, City Plaza is home to a growing number of health-focused businesses, including Lake Region Fitness, Corner Home Medical Supplies, Prime Therapy, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Lifewise, and now—Grace and Gratitude Wellness.

Grace and Gratitude Wellness is a newly opening integrative medicine clinic that brings a fresh, patient-centered approach to the Lake Region. Co-founded by Dr. Jessica Larson and Dr. Carlee Thomson, the clinic blends traditional and functional medicine to create comprehensive, personalized care experiences.

Nearly half of the U.S. population suffers from chronic health conditions, and many feel frustrated by the limitations of conventional medicine, which often emphasizes symptom relief over long-term healing. Grace and Gratitude Wellness addresses this gap by focusing on root-cause resolution. The clinic offers advanced diagnostic services—including hormone testing, gut health analysis, micronutrient evaluation, and food sensitivity screening—to uncover the underlying factors driving illness.

In addition to supporting patients with chronic conditions, the clinic offers same-day care for common non-emergency issues like coughs, sore throats, lacerations, sprains, and minor injuries. This model not only ensures timely care but also helps reduce the burden on local emergency rooms.

To complement its medical offerings, Grace and Gratitude Wellness provides a variety of alternative therapies such as halotherapy (salt therapy), infrared sauna with red light therapy, cold plunge therapy, and outpatient IV treatments. These services promote detoxification, boost immunity, improve circulation, and support mental clarity—contributing to a truly holistic healing experience.

Dr. Jessica Larson and Dr. Carlee Thomson, both seasoned nurse practitioners with extensive experience in patient care, will begin seeing patients on Monday, May 5, 2025. The clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
