There’s a new coffee shop in Fort Totten that serves hot and cold drinks that will boost your day. D & M Coffee is your drive-thru caffeine hero for your Monday morning. You might miss it if you are driving around Fort Totten. When you are driving from Devils Lake to Fort Totten on Highway 57, make a left on 3rd Ave. North. Once you are past the Spirt Lake Administrative Building, you will see the coffee shop on your left.
Owners husband and wife Dustin and Melissa Dauphinais (hence the name D & M) opened on Jan. 27 and cars were already lining up to order from their menu.
You can order a regular coffee, latte, cappuccino, a dirty Red Bull, or some pastries to fuel your morning.
“It was just kind of an idea about four years ago,” said Dustin. “I’ve been working in the area for a long time and seeing how much people like coffee and the mixed drinks and stuff and at the time of thinking of it, there was nothing out here at that time… So I thought it’d be a good idea to get one going out here.”
What was once an idea is now real life. “I’m really excited to be able to finally work for myself,” he said. “It feels really good.”
Dustin was previously doing IT work for schools.
When asked what makes coffee important, Melissa said it’s “just like an everyday thing.”
“When they wake up, they like that fresh cup of coffee. They’re sending pictures. This is how I start my morning… so they want their cup of coffee or other drinks we have.”
If you’re in the mood for a pastry, they have cookies available and will have banana breads for the holiday season. For Valentine’s Day and Christmas, they will have special pastries available that will be more decorative.
“It was a process to get here,” Melissa said. “A lot of people really waited and we had really good support of the community… We just love that we get to serve our community.”
The hours for D & M Coffee are Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Hours may change in the future.
